Floodplain Engineering
When stormwater gathers and enters a concentrated flow of significant size, it can cause flooding. This is most critically significant when flows join at a river or creek. For many years engineers have studied these areas and determined that there is a certain amount of area that must be left available for large peaks of flow to freely get through. These regions have come to be called floodplains.
Many times these areas are mapped by the US Army Corps of Engineers and published on Flood Rate Insurance Maps (FIRM) produced by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). There is a profession of engineers who are specially trained in the regulations and rules for floodplain analysis. These are called Certified Floodplain Managers. These are nationally certified professionals and when you have a floodplain matter relating to your development, it is very beneficial to seek one of us out. We have Certified Floodplain Managers on our staff.
